Cottagecore Wedding at Black Walnut Farm

Conveniently located in Saugerties, NY, you will find the hidden gem called Black Walnut Farm. This LGBTQ+ friendly wedding venue sits on 34 stunning acres filled with charming landscapes, a 4 bedroom Stone Farmhouse, a revitalized antique barn to host your dream wedding, and SO much more. The owners Sarah and Jim truly love what they do, and their mascot Miss Lily (the cutest kitty) will make you feel right at home. If you’re looking for a wedding venue in the Hudson Valley that has cottagecore antique charm with a whole lot of personality, look no further than Black Walnut Farm.

Andrea & Andrew had the most whimsical wedding there this past Summer. The day started in the farmhouse with capturing their custom details, along with the bride's stunning blush colored dress from Adrienne's Bridal. We then got Andrea in her dress, while her best friends helped button her up, and put on her accessories for the day. Meanwhile our groom got ready in the barn next to its original windows from 1891. As he was waiting, he practiced reading his vows to his future wife.

Before our lovely couple had their first look, Andrea opted to have a special moment with the first man in her life- her dad. To honor his late life partner, he wore purple accessories since purple was her favorite color. After they shared an emotional hug, dad proudly showed off his outfit to his daughter.

Our couple then shared a private first look together where Andrew had the cutest reaction. After we gave them some space to collect themselves, we went right into family formals, followed by bridal party photos. The groomsmen were dressed in light tan which was a nice contrast to the groom's green textured suit. The ladies wore a light pink, truly a great color choice for a summer wedding.

We then explored the grounds to take some couples portraits. We did a mixture of candid and editorial poses as we wandered the beautiful property. There were so many gorgeous spots to choose from - the swing set, the field surrounded by evergreens, the stone farmhouse covered in magical ivy, the rose garden, I could go on and on!

Once we wrapped up taking photos, we tucked the couple away before guests started to arrive. The ceremony was held in the woods just behind the barn.  The large wooden walkway served as the perfect entrance to this enchanted space surrounded by nature. As family and friends filled the chairs, you could just feel the air buzzing with excitement. Andrea and Andrew shared their hearts to each other in front of all of their important people, then sealed the deal with a kiss.

Cocktail hour was held outside on the lawn where guests were served custom cocktails created by the venue's owner Sarah. There was also an outdoor bar, lawn games, giant Jenga (which was a big hit), and a Saxaphone player from Skylark Music. Even Miss Lily graced us with her presence!

Inside the barn, the tables were decorated with stacked vintage books, custom table numbers which also honored their cat Benny, thrifted vases, and sage green runners. Above the tables hangs a 4-foot disco ball which makes any event more exciting!

After the first dances and speeches, I snuck our newlyweds outside for some golden hour photos. The long grass in the meadow made the most perfect backdrop for these romantic pictures, and Andrea's bouquet by Evergreen Lab added a vibrant pop of color.

Before dinner was served, Andrew surprised his bride by serenading her with the song “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds while also playing the piano. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as everyone was moved by his meaningful gesture.

The rest of the night was followed by great food, laughter, dancing, and smores under the stars. If you are a couple that values genuine moments, and are looking for a photographer to capture whimsical, romantic, and joyful imagery I would love to chat with you!
